In southern Mongolia, temperatures have reached as low as -27 Degrees Fahrenheit, and in the inner parts of Mongolia, temperatures of the Gobi have reached as high as 99 Degrees Fahrenheit. Average winter temperature ranges have never reached lower than -40 Degrees Fahrenheit. Average Summer temperatures have never exceeded 122 Degrees Fahrenheit. In the Gobi Desert, temperature ranges vary extremely from winter to summer. The Gobi is a very cold desert, with sometimes even being able to see snow and frost at the top of sand dunes. The Siberian Steppes is a very cold region, and during winter, snow will be blown in from this area giving additional moisture to the Gobi. These winds during winter is a main cause for why the Gobi will reach such low temperatures, because of how cold the winds are, and then this will also help with the temperatures during the summer to reach such extreme temperatures. the southeast area of the Gobi is usually extremely dry, but sometimes monsoons will reach this area, and create a moist environment for a short time.
